The design process of the 's move easyergo

The focus for STABILO was on the needs of children starting to write. In order to develop a suitable writing instrument for them, the designers worked together with fine motor skills expert Dr. Jens Philipp. Their aim was to develop a pen that supported a relaxed hand posture. Dr. Philipp came up with a pencil design for children’s hands that was tested by school children.

The designers adapted grip moulds for the thumb, index and middle fingers so these would act as a guide for the correct hand posture. Two different special models were created for left- and right-handers, which were adapted to the different ways in which the pencil is held. The slightly arched design of the STABILO ‘s move easyergo additionally supports the correct grip by children’s fingers. The pencil is prevented from slipping whilst writing and relaxed hand posture is supported. This results to easy and comfortable pencil handling which also guarantees neat and tidy writing. The designers used various colour combinations and materials for the pencil’s external appearance in order to appeal to children and spark interest.
